What is the most effective way for schools to address student conflicts?

The ways in which schools choose to address conflicts amoung students in schools are very important. This is because it helps students re-evaluate their actions and also use the encounter as a learning experience; that is if the punishment was potent.


To answer the central question, a survey was taken asking both students and teachers at highschool Brooklyn Collaborative. In the survey,fifteen students and fifteen teachers were interviewed. They all gave response to the same question of "What is the most effective way to address student conflicts in schools?". There were Five options to choose from which are;

  1. Suspension
  2. Expulsion
  3. Restorative practice
  4. Depending on the nature of the conflict (meaning all of the above can be implimented)
  5. Other where they had a chance to share suggesions.

This article will be comparing their responses and analyzing possible reasonings for their responses.
